OCD – Raising awareness and offering support

Self directed brief

Checking OCD is a form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) that manifests in compulsive routines, such as repeatedly turning switches off, and checking doors are locked. Objects such as buttons and switches can become triggers for compulsive routines, hugely impacting sufferer's daily lives.
UNPLUGGED is an NHS and Guerilla campaign seeking to expose the hidden triggers for OCD. The trigger monster is a character with a digital and physical presence, and is the face of the UNPLUGGED campaign.
Skills: Research & Interviewing, Campaign & character design, Post-production print (embossing), Guerilla campaign, Product design, Photography, Social media curation

Raising awareness
OCD is a widely misunderstood mental illness, with a common misconception about just being clean and tidy. The trigger monster stickers draw attention to the reality of how difficult daily life and simple tasks can be.

As well as having a medical application, UNPLUGGED is also a Guerilla campaign, designed to expose the triggers for Checking OCD that hide in plain sight. For instance, these stickers were placed on common trigger points in public places, such as St. James Quarter and Edinburgh Waverley train station.
Life-size trigger monsters direct attention to the sticker campaign, whilst also displaying information, in order to educate the public.
