D&AD New Blood Pencil Winner – Consent create

Brief set by 21 GRAMS

People with Down Syndrome experience high levels of sexual assault, as they can find the concept of consent difficult to understand. Additionally, traditional forms of sex education fail to meet their learning needs.

Consent create is a research-informed learning tool in partnership with LEGO, that breaks down the common emotions associated with consent, to help the user work out if consent should or should not be given. The tool is tailored to a wide range of ages, because consent applies to more than intimacy, and education about consent must begin from a young age for people with Down Syndrome.
Skills: Inclusive research, UX design, Accessible design, Product testing & creation, Campaign design, Copywriting, Packaging design & production, Social media and web design
Grounded in research
The consent create tool applies principles of Augmentative and Alternative Communication to Lego bricks, used to help people with learning difficulties better describe and understand emotions.
Encouraging autonomy
Before making a decision, whether that be playing a game with a friend or choosing to have sex, the user stacks the emotion bricks to get a clear sense of their feelings and whether they want to give consent.
